Targeting your business, product or service, with the female consumer in mind, is one of the easiest ways to attain successful return on your investment in the marketing world today. The myriad of services in the Beauty Industry that offers to make a woman look beautiful and feel more attractive are innumerable. The Beauty Industry in the United States alone generates upwards of $11.2 Billion dollars annually. If you are currently considering opening a salon or spa to capitalize on some of the profits made in this industry, it may very well prove to be a worthwhile venture for you.

Additionally, it is estimated that only 31 % of all users of Salon and Spas patrons are men however; it is believed that the trend within this demographic is on the rise and future growth can only be speculated since businesses of this nature rarely market themselves to male clientele.

The diverse menu of options provided by places offering beauty services can range anywhere from manicures, pedicures, Botox injections to reduce wrinkles, body wraps which reduce the signs of sagging and aging, to electronically removing hair follicles at the root in tender places on their body. These services may be painful and even costly but women are willing to put themselves through the experience to attain their desired results.

Most women in our society have been taught from very early age, that it is important to look pretty and to be to appealing to others; as well as to be attractive enough to find a boyfriend or a husband. Some may even find it helpful to pick up a beauty or fashion magazine for advice on how to look younger; or how to attract, or even keep, the men in our lives happy with how we look. Advertising in a major fashion magazine may also provide great returns as billions of copies are sold around the globe every day.

If you are a business owner who wants to make real great money in the beauty industry, you may consider opening a facility that provides higher ticket items and can charge much more for services rendered such as; operable procedures to augment the breasts or surgical removal of unwanted, sagging skin from the belly, buttocks or thighs. However, the overhead with this venture goes beyond assuring that your employees attended the local massage therapy course or beauty school as you will need to hire a medical professional who is Board Certified and State Licensed and has good insurance coverage. Additionally, you may require additional insurance coverage when if you consider this business venture, as it is wise to protect yourself against vicarious liability, should something unforeseeably go array.

While, one may think the means of attaining true beauty to be barbaric in nature; women are often willing to undergo anything from having a known neurotoxin injected into their face, to having their chest cut open in an effort to have greater physical appeal and further; are willing to reach deep into their pocketbooks in an effort to look beautiful.

Given the nature of the target market within the beauty industry, appealing to women’s sense of vanity and vulnerability is simple. When marketing a service that is sold and fulfilled over the internet or via traditional mail, there are some concerns and challenges you may run into that are unique to such industries. In these situations, the customer often feels detached from the service provider, and not all people are comfortable doing business in this impersonal way.   • Photographs and videos of your physical business are very helpful in establishing legitimacy in the customer’s mind. For the average customer, this may alleviate any suspicions that you are you are just a front or a phony.
  • Certain customers will never send in personal property unless they’ve spoken to someone. Always list a phone number where you customers and prospects can reach a real human voice (or get a call back from one).
  • Use customer testimonials prominently. The words of other happy customers are worth their weight in gold.
  • Get rated on Yelp, Google Places, CitySearch, and any other directory where consumers can rate and review businesses. Again, this establishes legitimacy, proves that your business does indeed exist, and—hopefully—shows that you are well-loved by people who have tried your service.

When decomposing a website for layout, the color, texture and types of imagery are unimportant. So don’t get caught up in the esthetic design when looking at other websites. Focus on basic structure and placement. Containing Block: The containing block is fixed width. That means it stays the same width not matter how the window is stretched. The exact width of the containing block is 954 pixels, which is a good standard size. Different monitors display pixels as different sizes. The higher resolution your monitor, the smaller each pixel is rendered. When designing a website you have to consider web users with older or lower resolution monitors. If the fixed width exceeds 960 pixels the sides may get cut off in lower resolutions monitors.

Logo & Identity Block: The logo and slogan at the top left can be seen clearly. Studies show that the logo is the first place a web user looks at when they land on a website. If your logo or slogan is unclear then the user is immediately confused as to the identity of your company and purpose of the website. Also notice a small form for an email newsletter sits on the top right. It is important to have a means of contact with visitors who are interested in your product but not ready to buy. Having a newsletter form in the ID block allows visitors to stay updated with no obligation to buy or send in personal information.

Navigation: Websites that contain a store always have a similar issue – lots of content and pages. In the case of Maxwell, their navigation at the top has too many links. The general rule is that a navigation bar should not contain more then SEVEN items. Seven is the number of items the average brain can remember without writing it down. You want the navigation to be simple enough that the visitor remembers the links available to them. The most important links in the top navigation are: How to Order, Brochure Request, Contact Us, and perhaps Why Maxwell Scott. The rest should be consolidated in drop down menus.

The right-side navigation for the product categories is not effective since the site is pretty cluttered. The products are the focal point of this website. You want to be sure that these categories be seen. Sometimes a dual layer, top, horizontal navigation is more effective.

Content: To begin, there are way too many links, mini navigations, images, and information on the homepage. The homepage is comparable to book cover. We don’t need the whole story right there on the cover. The most important information needs to exist above the fold. Additional info, extra links and featured products should go below the fold. Using the slider more effectively could help Maxwell consolidate their homepage. Put the most important features of the websites on each slide. Make each slide a link, and insure that the visitor can control the slider.

If you do not want to use a slider, you need to simplify the most important features of the site into three categories. Apply a strong image to each category, a link, a heading and maybe a little text. It’s a hard task for e-store websites to simplify the multitude of information and functions available on the website. However, one must remember that the homepage is merely a portal. Use it to direct your audience. Too many options have no advantage, not to the visitor or the company. And a cluttered homepage will drive visitors away out of confusion.

Footer: The footer is generally all right. However, there is a series of links below the social media buttons that are too small to be effective in anyway. I’d suggest removing the links entirely or putting the entire sitemap in the footer. Since the site has so many pages, a sitemap in the footer would be helpful. Additionally, the ‘product’ section of the sitemap could be subtly emphasized.

Whitespace: There is definitely not enough whitespace on this site. Removing some items, and moving others below the fold would help create more space and allow more breath between layout elements. The space below the fold is infinite. Use the space, since once a visitor is scrolling they’ll usually continue (as long as it doesn’t go on forever).

Phone Number: Is at the top left and pretty easy to spot. There are quite a few things cluttering the right top corner. The designer should have made the header a little wider to add more space. The phone number shouldn’t be at the very top. A small margin at the top would make it easier to see. Furthermore, the text below “Email Newsletter” is unnecessary and taking up space.

Conclusion

The first rule in good web design is to keep it clean and simple. The more pages and content a website has, the harder the designer must work to simplify all the information. Remember, a designer is more then someone who ‘makes things look pretty.’ Their main function is to communicate. A web designer must consider functionality first, and bells and whistles second. Clarity comes with good organization. Before beginning the layout of any website make sure you have well organized site architecture (how the navigation and pages are organized). Then list the top three to five most important features/pages on the website. Then begin your layout and make sure what’s important is above the fold, and bells and whistles below.

Maxwell has incorporated the gold accent of their products as the accent color on their website. The site also cleverly uses a warm brownish orange to contrast against the earthier leather like brown used for the header bars over each product category, and a rich chocolate brown for the background. They even use a wonderfully washed brown gray tone as a background color behind some links and captions. Yet the most important text (A Luxurious Fusion of British Design with Italian Craftsmanship….) has a white background to ensure readability.

Conclusion

Brown can be a dangerous color if not used correctly. Brown with too much yellow can look fowl on screen, and many designers argue it’s boring when used as a key color. However, used creatively and inventively it can transform a site’s design into a warm, elegant, organic experience.

How to keep your Leather Bag Looking Amazing

You have just bought a new expensive leather bag. It looks amazing; it feels amazing and smells amazing. Leather is a timeless piece in anyone’s wardrobe which means we want to look after it and keep it looking as amazing as it does as we carry it out of the shop. Leather can be difficult to care for properly unless you know the dos and don’ts of leather maintenance. This care depends on the type of leather your bag is made of.

For example, you would not want to get suede wet. However if your bag is made from deer leather then it can get a little damp. However there are some common care tips that you can use which keep your bag looking like new.

Firstly, you need to know what kind of leather your bag is made of.  You can check your type of bag by reading the label. The label is normally situated inside the bag along one of the seams of lining. Feel your bag the texture will also tell you. Deerskin has natural flaws in it whereas suede has a soft texture to touch.

Now you know what type of leather you have you will need the following items; a leather conditioning product, a suede waterproofing product, a suede eraser or a pink rubber, chalk rag soap and tissue paper.

Now you can condition and waterproof your bag. It is important to condition your bag every once in a while. This is even more important if you live in a dry and warm climate. You must use a conditioner that is specifically designed for leather. You only need to waterproof if your bag is suede. You need to use a commercial suede waterproofing product for this.

For deerskin after conditioning you will need a damp cloth and a mild soap, this will clean off any stains that you may have. You cannot use anything wet on suede though. To get rid of stains on your suede bag you will need a pink rubber or a suede eraser. If you happen to have any grease stains then apply board chalk to them. Be careful not to use any harsh chemicals or cleaning products that have alcohol on them as these will leave marks on your bag and cause lifelong damage.

Once this is complete you need to store the bag in a dark place. Do not cover it though. The most ideal place is a cool dark place. You must never place it in a plastic or non porous bag. This can promote the growth of mildew. Your bag must keep out of direct sunlight or heat. This can damage your leather and make it fade or become dry and cracked.

The last thing to do is when you are not using your leather bag stuff it with tissue paper. This will help the bag keep its shape by not letting the sides collapse. This does not need to be done often, every 6 months is more than enough to keep your bag looking like new.

How are Leather Bags Made?

Leather bags are a staple piece in most people’s wardrobes. Whether it is a leather briefcase or a leather handbag most people have one. Most people would agree that their leather item has lasted years and has never gone out of fashion. What makes these leather accessories so durable that they can last a lifetime?

Leather is the product of tanning animal rawhide skin more often than not it is from cattle. Leather is a highly versatile fabric which can be hand sewn or machine sewn. There are three types of leather most commonly used for making bags; the first is full grain leather. Full grain leather is very durable and is free of imperfections.

Then there is top grain leather (can also be referred to as corrected leather). Top grain is smooth on one side and fuzzy on the other. Top grain can have some imperfections on it however these are easy to perfect. The third is suede. Suede looks and feels soft and fuzzy. All three of these are popular choices for a bag but all three give a completely different look and feel to a bag.

As with any material item the leather needs to be prepared before being made into a bag. The person making the bag will have a pattern of what the bag should look like once finished and the different pieces and sizes required to make it. They will then lay out the leather and cut out the leather as appropriate. To do this they use heavy duty sharp scissors or maybe a razor knife. They also use a measuring tool like a ruler or a carpenter square to ensure it is cut out accurately.

The next stage is very important. The stitching, this needs to be done accurately and be made good and strong. If this is not done properly then the bag will not look right or fulfil its jobs as a bag. Stitching can be done by hand or on a machine. At this point external pockets and handles will be added also. The person assembling the bag will have to ensure that they do not ruin the leather pieces. This includes adding additional unnecessary stitches. If any holes are made in the leather during the stitching process these will not heal over time and may be noticed on the final product.

Once the main body of the bag is complete the assembler will then construct the lining of the bag. Before the lining is added to the inside of the bag the assembler will add any pockets, zips or buttons to the lining of the bag. The lining is then checked and tested to ensure that it fits in the bag properly.

Once the lining is fitted and is secure any additional accessories will be added. This can include; extra buckles or straps, or perhaps a flower or another accessory to make the bag complete. The final accessories must follow the original design exactly. Then one final check will be done on the bag to ensure it is exactly like the original design.

The Types of Grain in Leather

For most people out there, leather is leather; they do not know that there are different types of leather that can be used in the production of leather goods. Indeed, leather goods are not of the same quality and this is mainly due to the type of leather that is used in producing them. Before you shop for any leather goods, it is important that you know the different types of leather that are used in the production of leather goods. One of the ways through which leather can be distinguished is by the type of grain it has.

Normally, there are four grains in which leather is sold, namely, full-grain, top-grain, corrected-grain and split leather. All of these types of grains are gotten from animal hides and thus they are different from artificial leather. But they differ from each other in their quality.

Full-Grain Leather

This is a type of grain in which the hide used in producing the leather is not sanded, snuffed or buffed. Owing to the fact that this type of leather is not sanded, the natural marks on the hide are still visible. If there is any imperfection on the hide, you will still see it on the leather. This type of leather is very reliable and strong. This is because the grain has not been removed. Thus the fiber strength and the toughness of the hide are still retained in the leather. Full-grain leather does not wear out; instead a patina will be developed overtime. Full-grain leather also has better breathability than other type of leather. Owing to the toughness of this type of leather, it is used in the production of footwear and leather furniture.

Top-Grain Leather

The top grain leather is a good type of leather but its quality is second to that of full-grain leather. In this type of leather, the split layer is removed. This explains why the leather is very thin. The top-grain leather is more flexible than full-grain leather because of the thinness of the leather. However, the leather is not as breathable as full-grain leather because it has been sanded. No patina is developed over time. In other words, the leather is not expensive as the full-grain leather. However, one advantage that this type of leather has over full-grain leather is that it resists dirt and stains more than the full-grain leather.

Corrected-Grain Leather

Corrected grain leather is a combination of natural leather with artificial grain. In other words, corrected grain leather is made by applying an artificial grain to any leather. Corrected leather is sanded and all the imperfections are eliminated. This type of leather is available in two forms which include pigmented and semi-aniline leather.

Split Leather

When the top-grain of an animal hide has been removed, the remaining fibrous part can be used in the production of leather. The leather produced with this part of the raw hide is called split leather. Suede leathers are made from this type of grain. However, split leather is not durable as the full-grain and top-grain leather.

The Process of Making Leather Products

Highly flexible and durable, leather is used for making varied leather products including purses, bags and jackets amongst others. It is obtained from animal skins through a process that can be undertaken in a cottage industry or large-scale heavy production with machinery. Different types of leather can be found in the market. These include full grain leather (un-sanded), top grain (split layer taken out), corrected grain (has artificial grain) and split grain leather. These are suitable for crafting of different leather products.

The skin from which leather is to be obtained from is usually subjected to three main processing stages. Preparation is the first processing stage where the skin is soaked and washed and rehydrated. Lime is then applied to remove proteins therein. This is followed by unhairing where most hair on the skin is removed. The skin is then split horizontally and limed again to remove remaining proteins. The skin is then subjected to de-liming process where lime and other treatment chemicals used are removed. Bating of the skin follows (application of synthetic proteins) to soften the skin further.

Bating is usually followed by degreasing, a process that involves removal of any fatty material from the skin. The skin is then bleached to produce a skin light in color. Varied salts are then applied to lower the skin’s pH value in process known as picking. De-picking completes the preparation stage.

De-picked skin is then subjected to tanning, a process that stabilizes the skin to remain soft even when dry. Depending on what the resultant leather is to be used for, different tanning methods can be employed. Tanning using tannin (obtained from vegetables) or tree bark yields supple and brown lather in color. Chromium produces leather in varied colors, oxazolidine compounds produce pale cream and white leather, aromatic polymers produce pure white leather. Tanning using aluminum salts yields leather in light color shades.

Tanned skin is usually subjected to crusting, a process that involves thinning of the skin before the same is lubricated. Appropriate dying and coloring is applied to enhance that obtained after tanning.
