Differences in Animal Leather

There are so many different types of leather in the market today and this is from the different types of animal skins used to make leather. Some leather is lighter and more flexible, while other leather is stiff and has an entirely different look. Let’s examine the different types of leather and their advantages.

Goat/Cattle Skin Leather

As implicit from the name, the hide used in fabricating this type of leather is taken from goat’s or cattle’s skin. Coat/cattle leather is known for their smoothness. They are also soft to the touch and silky. The leather is exceptional because of their durability, toughness, fine grain and strength. Goat/cattle leather is commonly used by many designers because of their qualities. The wallet and purses produced with this type of leather are sleek, beautiful, attractive, stylish and appealing than some other wallets produced with other animal’s skin.

Cow Leather

Cow leather is produced with tanned cow hide. Normally, the skin or hide of cows are very firm and hard, but during the tanning process, they are made to be soft, flexible and smooth. So, they can now be used to fabricate wallets and purses. Cow leather is preferable to goat leather because it is more durable and has more strength than goat leather. This is why it is extensively utilized in the fabrication of many leather products like shoes, wallets, purses, handbags, travel bags, jackets, belts and others. As implicit from the above, wallets and purses fabricated with cow leather is special and unique; consequently, they are costly than other types of wallets and purses. But their high cost is justified by their durability and quality. So, if you have wallet and purse made with this type of leather, you will get value for your money.

Pig Hide Leather

Pig leather is from tanned pig skin. Though it is not common or widely used in the fabrication of leather wallets and purses, pig leather has strong resistant to corrosion and scratches. It is hard and firm when it has not been tanned; but after tanning it becomes smoother and softer to the touch. When compared with other leathers, it is better than goat leather but not better than cow leather.

Nubuck Leather

This type of leather is velvety in appearance, soft to the touch and also very shinny. Nubuck leather is mostly used by designers because they are highly durable. They are also very expensive. The wallets and purses produced with it are also very costly.

Suede Leather

It has the same appearance with Nubuck leather but not the same quality and therefore it is not as expensive as Nubuck leather. Both are special types of leather. You may not be able to differentiate between a wallet that is made with Nubuck leather and a wallet that is made with suede leather because of their similarities in appearance. When you are purchasing it, you have to be very careful otherwise you may be deceived.

Nowadays, there is artificial type of leather also that can be used in the fabrication of leather wallets and purses.
