Variations of Leather

Not all leather is created equal. The look and feel of leather varies greatly due to the animal. Let’s look at a few examples of the different kinds of leather.

Top Grain Leather

Top grain leather is made but only the removal of hair, which is found in the hide epidermis. It is considered the most natural leather, owing to reason that the hide has not been finished and polished. For the hide to be thoroughly finished, there are two techniques that can be employed either aniline or semi-aniline. In case the leather is done the aniline technique, a give piece of leather is immersed in a dye that is transparent, which uniformly colors the entire leather while still maintaining its natural effect. Once the aniline is complete, if there is any additional coat on this leather for preventing strain, it is then said to have undergone a semi-aniline finish. However, it is crucial to note that, top grain leather is not just expensive but it is also of the best quality.

Faux Leather

This is an artificial type of leather. It often looks like higher quality leather. A person who knows leather can tell the difference by looking at it or even by touching it. One of telling the difference is that faux never creases or deform. Leather from an animal’s skin always shows scraps and the cuts it endured over its lifetime. Many prefer Faux because it can be more durable than high-end cowhide and because it always looks perfect. Others like it since they do not like the use of animal skin in making products –which is usually personal.

Patch Leather

Patch leather is a common word that is using when talking about a product that has been made from a minute piece of leather. It may be obtained from lamb hide or even cowhide, but all the same, this leather is mostly cheaper than the rest of the leather owing to reason that it is normally obtained from pieces that remained after it has been cut. At times, the patch leather can be of high quality depending on leather it was obtained, but all the same, they still are not sold in the same price as the original leather.

In determining what leather happens to be the best, one should bear two factors in mind: the amount of money that one is intends to use, plus the purpose of the item to be bought. Handbags that are made from cowhide are durable and can last for an exceedingly long time, while the handbags that have been made from lambskin have an extremely soft texture. This difference is because of the leather obtained from the cow is tougher compared to the one from a lamb. In case one has the intent of making luggage tag, then the most preferable leather to use is the one made from either faux or cowhide. The preference for this is enhanced due to reason that both kinds are not only long lasting but also durable. Lambskin and faux are best used in the manufacture of cell phone cases because the lambskin has a soft texture while the faux are durable. The cases for holding cigarette are made from lambskin and faux or cowhide since the lambskin has a soft appeal while both the faux and cowhide are durable and long lasting.
