The Gentleman Trends You Must Adopt In 2017
A new year offers a prime opportunity to reinvent yourself. Although fashion isn’t shy of reinvention, it is hard to step away from your former sartorial routines to engage in a newly styled you. Make it your 2017 resolution to think more liberally when improving your wardrobe and adopt these five future gentleman trends for the year ahead…

CHECK MATE
“Famously worn by the Duke of Windsor, the windowpane check has embraced an unexpected comeback over the past few years. Titled the window pane due to its square shape, this traditional print is predominantly used on tailoring. Although it is steeped in history, this print’s geometric design offers a modern element. As seen at Paul Smith next season, the revived window pane check can be worn as a two piece or independently. This one’s for the confident and quirky. The kind that aim to stand out from the crowd. If 2017 feels like your year to shine, investing in a windowpane wool suit is a clever move.”

CROP UP
If you walk around the streets of Florence during Pitti Uomo, you are bound to witness crowds of stylish Italianos donning a significantly cropped hem on their trousers. Deriving from the purely practical reason of keeping ankles cool during the Mediterranean summer months, it has now become one of Italy’s quintessential sartorial traits and is fastly being adopted by discerning gentleman around the world.
In 2017, your trouser hems should be sans turn-up with no taper in sight and cut around 3cm above the ankle. It is vital that you have your ankles on show for this look. Shoes should be of a lace-up derby or brogue style – stay away from loafers, this year. As noted in the Marni and Giorgio Armani shows, 2017’s cropped trouser style should be cut straight with a loose fit and teamed with a semi-structured jacket.
BOY SCOUT
“2017’s man encapsulates adventure and wanderlust. James Bond on safari, if you will. If your resolution is to explore the world this year, this trend is right up your street. Think desert belted jackets, slim trousers with external pockets and impressive leather holdalls. You don’t have to travel to wear this look, though. In an everyday setting, this trend adds to your worldly and cultured demeanour. Wear it with a venturesome attitude and you’re bound to make a statement. This 2017 macro trend was spotted at Moncler, Ralph Lauren and Louis Vuitton, to name a few.”
