Handbag Day 2016: What’s in our Handbags? | Inside MSB

As Carrie Bradshaw once said, a woman would feel naked without her handbag. And how true she was. Just think about it, how would we cope without a beautifully crafted piece of leather clutched to our side containing all our vital bits and bobs that help us get through the day in one piece.

A woman’s handbag is by far one of her most sacred possessions. It goes everywhere with her – from the corner shop to pick up milk to the boardroom for that meeting she’s been dreading for weeks. Whether it’s a fashion statement or a classy staple, her handbag is more than just a sartorial jigsaw piece to help connect her style together. It’s her identity, her comfort and a functional part of her day-to-day life. Of course, it helps if your handbag is beautiful and luxurious and you love it more than you tend to divulge. To honour National Handbag Day 2016, we are delving into where no man has ever been before – our handbags. Handmade in Italy from Tuscan vegetable-tanned leather, our Maxwell Scott Bags handbags are highly durable for everyday life whilst exuding a minimal Great British aesthetic. Here, we rummage around in our lavish leather handbags, sift through the tissues and the empty chewing gum wrappers to reveal the favourite things that live in our trusty bags.

“I’m constantly reading and writing so a decent note book and something to read are must-have essentials in my handbag. The Palermo bucket bag goes with me everywhere – I can just throw it over my shoulder before I leave the house and I know that it will compliment my outfit. I like its unique shape and the leather, of course, is irresistible. I recently bought the Gruppo 7 phone sleeve to protect my new iPhone 7 as I am determined to give it the best treatment. It’s peculiar how having your initials embossed onto an accessory can you make you love it so much more, but I suppose it just makes it feel unique to you. Ray Bans are a classic staple in my wardrobe. I bought this metallic pair this summer and I am rarely seen without them when the sun decides to shine.”

“I bought Vogue to read on the plane during my recent travels and this Victoria Beckham interview made me fall in love with her even more! I think she’s an amazing role model for women working in fashion. Of course, my car keys have a constant place in my Fabia Croco handbag. The Mimi heart key ring is an ideal way of jazzing up a boring bunch of keys. It also makes the perfect little ‘I love you’ gift for a partner. I love the classic shape of my Jigsaw sunglasses – I always find that tortoiseshell goes with everything in my wardrobe. A decent lip gloss is always an essential beauty piece in my handbag. At the moment, I am loving this coral-toned lip shine by Younique.”

“My headphones go with me wherever I go! This Sennheiser pair are super comfy. I always tend to keep a book in my Rosa handbag for when I need to pass some time. My current read is ‘Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll – it’s very gripping and I’m finding it hard to put down! As Autumn is finally here, a rich hand cream is a must-have item in my handbag. This Pistachio hand cream by Laura Mercier leaves a the most divine scent on your hands all day long whilst being extremely moisturising. I always carry my Chanel healthy glow compact with me – it’s not only beautiful to look at but keeps me shine-free all day long. This stress-fix oil by Aveda is a godsend for when you’re having one of those days.”

“Living in England means that you have to be fully prepared for temperamental weather. That’s why I always carry a decent umbrella around with me. This polka dot and rose number is very feminine and reminds me of Dolce & Gabbana. If you have to use an umbrella, at least do it stylishly! My Kindle was a present and I simply adore it – it goes everywhere with me in my Medolla L satchel bag. As the weather has got much colder recently, I picked up this knitted khaki bobble hat in Primark – I love this brand for seasonal pieces – especially when they look as luxurious as this hat! Of course, my glasses have a permanent place in my handbag. This sleek and minimal pair suit my style perfectly.”
