Autumn/Winter 2016 welcomes the dramatic return of mock croc. A sleek texture connoting the wild kingdom and a certain air of glamour, this ancient reptile skin finish is a one-way ticket to looking on trend next season. The only circumstance in fashion where faux is perceived as stylish, crocodile skin is intricately replicated using printing techniques onto materials such as calf leather and vinyl. So, who jumped on the mock croc band wagon for AW16? We break down the faux alligator looks from the most recent catwalks, here…

With deep autumnal shades set behind a hypnotic sunrise, Mugler’s AW16 collection contrasts dramatic leather pieces and a rich yellow catwalk. Boasting a soft matrix aesthetic, elegant mock croc features on wide notch jacket lapels and is sliced onto skirts with razor-sharp accuracy. A mature and edgy vibe, this season’s Mugler girl may be some place dreamy but she’s not to be messed with.

The sporadic creative mind that is John Galliano hasn’t disappointed when it comes to his latest collection for Maison Margiela AW16. An eccentric hybrid of print and texture, it is hard to pinpoint Galliano’s exact trail of thought when observing next season’s collection. Note the black glossy mock croc trimming, the over-sized faux croc belts and the highly ostentatious and trademark Galliano platform boots in a duo-toned mock croc print.

A spectacle of tulle and jewels in a black and dusky pink colour palette, the Alexander McQueen fashion house is embracing a dainty and feminine aesthetic for AW16. Since Sarah Burton’s reign after the tragic death of Mcqueen, the collections have maintained an ethereal beauty that was so inherent in his work. Mock croc leather in black and hot peachy pink toughens up this collection’s intricate lace and embroidered butterfly detailing.

Tisci marked a decade at the Givenchy house with an Egyptian themed soirée. Blending bold ancient Egyptian prints in primary tones with an array of exotic textures from crocodile to python. Crocodile print tote bags were swung low across the body and plush fur jackets were adorned with shiny croc leather and round gold plated buttons. A confident display with structured lines and rich embellishments, Givenchy pulled out all the stops for AW16.
