Hello and welcome to the new look Maxwell Scott Bags.
For us, October has begun with the unveiling of a new visual identity and design direction. The work — spanning over 12 months — is intended to better reflect the legacy, prestige and future ambitions of the company.
The work does not stop here though, as there are a whole host of things we will be adding to the website in the coming months that we hope will add more delight to your experience of shopping with us and help us on the way to our goal of becoming the worlds most loved luxury British bag company. We believe in honesty, hard work, detail and always being committed to delivering the best products.
Special thanks to all of my team for their support and effort, both technical and not, while we created our new home. And a note of gratitude to you for reading, thanks!
I hope you have fun browsing. I will keep you informed of news and updates right here.
At Maxwell Scott Bags, we take immense pride when creating our ‘signature’ leather. It truly is a beautiful and versatile product, which only the most prestigious fashion houses choose to utilize.
Our renowned tannery is located in the heart of Tuscany and masters a traditional art. Members of the highly esteemed ‘Italian Consortium of Leather Tanners’, they abide to strict standards and rigorous quality checks to ensure the production of the finest leathers in the world.
Using methods that have been passed down through generations for over 200 years, our craftsmen use the long and complicated process of vegetable tanning to create our luxury leather. Combining artisan techniques with new technology, this process takes nearly forty days.
We make it our responsibility to only select premium full-grain Italian hides, and take great care in understanding the production processes behind the products. Full-grain leather is the thick top section of the cowhide and is considered the finest type. We don’t correct or alter the hides before tanning, which leaves the natural folds and marks visible, and also beneficially leaves the hide in its strongest form pre-tanning.
The secret of our ‘signature’ leather lies in the use of tannins, which penetrate deep into the raw hides. The tannins we use originate from the bark of chestnut trees, and help to enhance the quality, feel and longevity of the leather. Through use our leathers develop a beautiful patina, which reveals warm and natural tones. This special characteristic ensures each and every product is unique. This traditional process also allows marks and scratches to be buffed out effortlessly.
We like to keep it natural, so no chemicals are used in the process of dying our hides. This means that the products we produce are environmentally friendly, something which is very important to us. Not only this, but our tannery recovers, recycles and reuses as many substances as possible used in the tanning process, thus producing very little waste. Our tannery is as passionate about tanning hides as we are about making leather bags.
We’re so confident about the longevity and quality of our leathers that we offer a 25-year warranty on every product.
