#MaxwellScottLFW Diary: Jessica’s London Fashion Week Notes

With Fashion Week season well under way, Maxwell Scott’s fashion insider, Jessica, jots down her highlights from last weekend’s London Fashion Week 2017…

Friday 17th February, 5pm, YRK - KGX

“Despite being based in the heart of Yorkshire, it only takes around two hours on the train into London. I read Vogue and Elle front to back whilst swigging a strong coffee and before I know it, I’m in the Big Smoke.”

“It takes my Northern soul a while to adjust to London’s loud roar. Friday night after-work drinks mean that every pub is spilling with inner-city workers leaving their hectic week behind them. I grab a Wasabi to-go and jump in a black cab to my hotel on The Strand. An early night calls.”

Saturday 18th February, 8am, Covent Garden - Store Studios

“The morning sees a hazy cloud of white covering the skies – not the ideal backdrop for street style. After a Starbucks flat white and a fruit pot (so chic), I head to LFW’s new base, The Store Studios. Alas, more coffee is consumed. This time, it’s complimentary from Lavazza.”

Saturday 18th February, 11am, Store Studios

“After a morning of scoping out the Store Studios’ minimalistic architecture and incredible style exhibitions, I head outside to a crowd of riled up fur protesters. As I walk past, I am followed by an angry woman with a megaphone. ‘It’s faux’ I say, pointing to the Zara stole around my neck. At least I didn’t get red paint thrown over me.”

“After a couple of morning shows, I head back to The Strand to meet the talented photographer, Suzi Ovens, for a spot of street style shooting. We may not be Bill Cunningham, but teamwork means we are probably just as good – maybe. I spot the style, she shoots – we are a match made in street style heaven.”

“We bump into friend and Maxwell Scott brand ambassador, Jack Ashton, and engage in an impromptu shoot outside LFW. He’s carrying his trusty Calvino briefcase, bien sûr.”

“Back at LFW’s main hub for complimentary drinks and chats with some of the designers showcasing. The champagne and fashion talk is well and truly flowing. Although I’m strictly here on business, I politely accept the drinks on offer – all in the name of Fashion Week, right?”

Saturday 18th February, 8.30pm, Covent Garden

“After a hard day of fashion, fashion, and more fashion, I change my white leather boots for comfy Stan Smiths and head to Covent Garden for a Mexican dinner. Refueling on guacamole and chips is necessary for tomorrow’s energy levels. That’s my excuse, anyway.”

Sunday 19th February, The Strand, 9am

“After an early-ish night and a fight with my suitcase (too many clothes), I check out of my hotel and head to the Store Studios for another fashion-filled day. I could get used to this.”

Sunday 19th February, Tate, 1pm

“After the Margaret Howell show in the morning and writing time in the LFW space with copious free coffee and a fruit pot, I hop onto the underground at Temple and whizz along the Thames towards the Tate. Topshop Unique show incoming.”

Sunday 19th February, Tate, 2pm

“The Topshop Unique AW17 show opens with the electrical sounds of Moby. Lily Donaldson strides onto the circular catwalk in a Hacienda-inspired slogan sweatshirt and flowing trousers. The collection that follows nods to the rave era of the Nineties with nostalgic slinky dresses and colourful layering.”

“As Topshop Uniques guests spill out of the Tate museum, an after-show buzz overrides a usually calm Sunday afternoon. A colourful crowd of bloggers, buyers and influencers gather outside. Victoria Magrath from In The Frow stands out in a perfectly polished white Reiss suit.”

Filled with inspiration and tired from walking miles around London, I jump onto the train and head back to Yorkshire. I’m up bright and early in the morning and it’s back into the office for a debrief of the weekend with the Maxwell Scott team. When it comes to fashion, it’s true – there’s no rest for the wicked.
