The city of love has long been connected to the very best of fashion. As the home of haute couture, Paris is a place of effortless creativity, design and quality. Whether you are carrying freshly made baguettes in wicker baskets as you cycle around the city, reading a book on the embankments of the river Seine or drinking red wine into the early hours in petite cafes on street corners, there is nothing better than the life and style of a local.
French style is iconic. The red lip, Breton t-shirt, skinny jeans and ballet flats that come to mind however do not quite encapsulate the style of the city. Rather, a timeless appeal mixed with effortless cool is far more apt. For AW19, this means investing in simple suiting options that are subtle in their strength. Renowned as a breeding ground for new talent, London Fashion Week has always been more experimental. This is then understandably reflected in the streets, with personality and individual style reigning over this capital city. As such for a true Londoner look, it is vital to be more experimental with colour and print. A mix-and-match approach simply requires choosing a base colour to work around and then being brave with your styling. The star of the show, though, should be a statement knit. This works perfectly with the bourgeois trend for AW19 with which the knitwear must be paired with a silk blouse and midi skirts – all finished with a neat blazer if required. Here, you will find the iconic brightly coloured houses on the edge of the canal as well as a relaxed atmosphere with music and great food. Alongside the Amalienborg Palace for those with a love of royal history, the zoo for a family trip and Strøget, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets, for a touch of shopping, Copenhagen really is a magical experience with a completely relaxed atmosphere.
Copenhagen truly has one of the most recognisable styles at the moment. With the aid of the raise of Instagram, Scandi style has proliferated across borders. The style is often particularly casual, favouring more voluminous shapes and muted tones. But, most crucially, the look needs to be finished with a pair of statement trainers and subtle jewellery. This has been translated onto the runway for the coming season with the growing trend for minimalism. With designers such as The Row leading the way, Copenhagen minimalism epitomises pragmatic clothing with a chic and interesting aesthetic.
Known for its art scene and modern landmarks, Berlin is a modern hub. For your dose of history, a trip to the fallen Berlin Wall is essential, especially the East Side Gallery. This is an open-air gallery that consists of a series of murals painted directly onto a 1,316 m long remnant of the Wall. Finishing with an evening at the gold-coloured, swoop-roofed Berliner Philharmonie, Berlin immerses you into a rich culture that inspires and informs.
Personal expression reigns in Berlin as the epicentre of fashion, film and nightlife. As such, this requires a slightly more youthful aesthetic which is still highly cultivated to remain polished. For AW19, adopt this approach to the leather trouser. From Isabel Marant to Tom Ford, the AW19 runways were awash with soft supple leather trousers in every style. These can be transformed by either a ladylike blouse and low court heel or a bold knit and biker boots. For a city that celebrates the individual, leather trousers are a must-have investment piece for this season and many more to come.

Of course it is home to the joys of fashion and design at Milan Fashion Week but it also boasts high-end restaurants and the gothic Duomo di Milano cathedral. The city is truly stunning. It is an immersive historical experience, especially as it was founded in around 600 BC and is home to some of Leonardo DaVinci’s greatest works. With the very finest works of art, breath-taking architecture and the opportunity to viva la dolce vita, Milan is a vibrant city that is sure to inspire.
The Trend
Milan presents the very best of the traditional Italian design houses and the decadent elegance that these houses embody. With the likes of Dolce & Gabbana and Versace dominant in the city, Milan requires a mix of colour and print. Therefore the AW19 trend of dark florals is particularly apt – embracing the beauty of florals with a true autumnal touch. Print, in essence, is key for this city as is the popular mini skirt. This however should be paired with one of the biggest trends for the upcoming season in order to feel universally accessible – a thick pair of black tights. Thus, there is an elegant playfulness to the city and to its style.
