As a freelance designer and photographer, some of my clients don't always appreciate the designer garb of a Crumpler bag, jeans and t-shirt so I was looking for a more professional bag to take to meetings, galleries and the like. The Paolo fits the bill perfectly for me - plenty of room for my Mac laptop, iPad, notepad etc. It is beautifully made with a sturdy, strong handle and has quality stitching throughout, which is nice to see given that so many other so-called quality brands don't actually finish their products very well. I've had several bags over the last few years, some expensive and others not, and none of them have lasted very well because their stitching and the quality of the tanning is poor. Certainly not with the Paolo 3! The service from Maxwell Scott is BY FAR the best I've ever experienced with any online purchase I've made - despite me having to wait a month for my bag to be handmade, I was kept in the loop from day one. Cons: The shoulder strap is too 'feminine' and thin, and there's no way of adjusting its length. Adding feet on the bottom of the case would also be good to help protect the bottom of the bag over time. But those minor things aside I'm extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this bag - and Maxwell Scott - to anyone.

This is a great bag. I was looking for something simple that would look good, hold my laptop, note book, and other things while not looking bulky and this bag has perfectly fulfilled that need, in fact, it exceeded my expectations. If you wear a suit or dress business casual this bag will look impressive and make you look that much more professional. The hardest part was selecting between the Tan and the Dark Chocolate color, I went with the Dark Chocolate and am glad I did but just keep in mind it looks almost black under some lights so make sure you want something very dark. I've gone through 1 bag every 1 or 2 years and am certain this bag will be used for much much longer, easily 6+ so the price is more than reasonable. The only negative I can think of is that I wish it had more card holder slots and maybe a internal zip pocket would be nice but not essential. Get this bag...

I have been searching for a quality leather bag for work for a number of years now. I knew exactly what I wanted and struggled to find anything that ticked all of the boxes. Then I discovered this company and this bag and I have to say it was well worth the wait. The quality and construction of the bag is fantastic. The leather is of great quality, the stitching is robust, the fixings for the strap well made and give me the confidence that they won't fall apart after a matter of months. The handle is ergonomically designed and feels strong and comfortable. It has plenty of room for my work folders, small umbrella, keys, phones etc. as well as my daily gym kit and a packed lunch. I was looking for a bag to last me a lifetime and I think with this I may have found it. I was looking at a bag in M&S for around half this price, having picked that up again today I can see that would have been a waste of money. This is a great purchase and one that I expect to get many years from. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

There are other briefcases that could probably compete in terms of practicality and durability but this item simply oozes class. If it is possible to have an everyday accessory that is a work of art, this is it. I've had my black Paolo3 for about a month now, and every time I carry it, or open it, it just makes me feel good! It's a quality object. Of course the stitching and the finish is first rate, of course the leather is excellent (from both outside and inside), but the thing that did surprise me were the tiny details of the design which are just spot on. For example, the shape and comfort of the handle being functional, solid but also feeling quite fine. Also the clasp which is strong and compact and closes with a satisfying click, but also has attractive grooving behind. The inside zipper pockets are subtle, and handy for occasional use, and there are just the right number of internal fittings to be helpful without becoming bulky. For those looking to buy - for what it's worth I'm glad I chose the Paolo3, not the 2. I was worried that it might be too large. It's not. Packing papers, laptop and other accoutrements, for me needs all three pockets. The embossed initials ended up being slightly larger than I was expecting (my three initials ended up perhaps 1cm high, 2.5cm across), so I was pleased to have gone for the "blind" option, so it's not too garish. But overall this is a high quality, functional but beautiful case, which my son already has his eye on for when I stop using it in 20 years time!

I was looking for a briefcase-style bag for work, one that would stand up to daily use, hold my essentials and look professional when meeting clients. Having three sections the Paolo 3 fits the bill perfectly - one of the sections is made to fit a notepad folio, another fits my 15" MacBook and another fits my iPad with still plenty of room for all the other usuals such as wallet, keys, pen, business cards etc. And to top it off the mobile phone section fits a magic mouse perfectly :)
First impressions are it is made beautifully. Like, really top-notch. The handle is strong and sturdy, the claspy hingey things that fix the handle and shoulder strap to the bag are solid, the zips aren't cheap ones and the locking clasp at the front is very smooth in use. The stitching and attention to detail are what I would expect for a product of this calibre, and then some. The finish of the leather (I opted for the Dark Chocolate colour) wasn't what I was expecting as it is very 'polished' i.e. not as 'matt' as the images suggest, but I know this will develop over time as it gets more use and eventually I hope it looks less 'new' and ages well. The quality of the leather itself is top drawer and the craftsmanship that has gone into it is second-to-none. I've had several man-bags over the last few years, some expensive ish ones and others not, and none of them have lasted very well because the stitching is poor quality. Certainly doesn't appear to be the case with this!
Finally, the service from Maxwell Scott is BY FAR the best I've experienced with any online purchase I've made. I ordered my bag direct from the Maxwell Scott website (there was an offer on there that was too good to refuse) and was kept in the loop from day one when to expect delivery of my order as the bag had to be hand-made in Florence with a lead time of around 4 weeks.
My only negative is the shoulder strap is a bit 'girly' and thin, which is a definite no-go for a manbag of any kind ;) There are also no 'adjusters' to alter its length, rendering it a bit useless.

The briefcase is made from 100% Italian full-grain leather. The quality and the craftsmanship is exquisite. The leather finish is high quality while not being as stiff as a "Saddleback" product. The thread and hardware are well made and don't have that cheap made in china look and function. If you choose to buy, be aware of the color. What you see here is not exactly the color you receive. I ordered the TAN color and got a brown case. It is a beautiful color, though, but it is not TAN as you might think. It is like a chestnut brown without the reddish hue found in other briefcases. The chocolate is not chocolate it is a cordovan burgundy color - so beware if you don't want those colors.
Inside light suede dividers with a three gusset compartment. A small pocket for a phone, my droid fits in there, two pen holders and a place for your business cards. In the rear gusset of the case are two slip pockets for placing papers receipts etc. Under the flap is a nice zippered pocket and the same with the exterior back of the bag is an outside zipper pocket.
All in all I highly recommend this product. If you are a coinsurer of leather and traditional styling then this briefcase is for you. You won't be disappointed. The only con I would complain about is the strap. It is not adjustable and is about .75 inches wide with a small leather piece for your shoulder. For my height, it is fine (5'11") and I have to say the strap is very comfortable even under a full load. However, very minor compared to this bag overall.
By the way. This ships from the UK and FedEx will notify you about customs and you will need to fill out a short form (took me 1 minute and no duty is owed) and fax it back to an agent at FedEx. I paid $8.95 USD for express shipping and received it in two days. Great company!!

I did a lot of research before ultimately going with the Maxwell Scott briefcase. To say the least, I'm not disappointed. It's a VERY high quality product and is absolutely in the same league as other bags I looked at that cost 3 and 4 times this one. The only tiny issue may be your laptop that is larger in size. My Mac fits easily in the compartment, but my Dell (it's a big Latitude) barely fits. But, it does fit and I have carried it in there on several occasions. The briefcase looks even better in person, so don't be afraid to buy it before handling it. I hope this helps as I found very little owner feedback on briefcases before I finally went with this one.
