Smart, stylish and the proud owner of the ultimate millennial beard, Jack is Australia’s most gentlemanly instagrammer.

We asked this part-time blogger, full-time accountant how he manages to balance life as a young professional, what are the work essentials that he keeps in his Micheli and where his favourite places in Melbourne are for a cup of coffee.

Firstly, what do you particularly look for in a briefcase?

When looking for a briefcase, I want something that’s going to go the distance. That usually consists of the bag being made of leather.

I also look for a briefcase that has multiple compartments to make it easy to find items in a timely manner.

We know that you have a very busy life juggling accounting and blogging, what are your briefcase essentials that get you through the day?

Without a doubt, I always carry a calculator (typical, I know). My other essentials include:

1. Headphones. These can be a life saver to get me through a long day in the office.

2. Hand moisturiser. Yes, my hands get dry being in an office all day.

3. A backup tie; yes my lunch jumps at me sometimes.

4. Cologne. It is all about making a lasting first impression.

5. A Water bottle. Stay hydrated, kids.

6. And, a good book for the commute to and from the office.

What are your best tips on how to wear a suit in a modern way?

Let the suit do the talking, keep the accessories to a minimum. By that I mean, ties and pocket squares are completely fine. But it’s either the tie bar or lapel pin – pick one.

Belts aren’t always a must, but if you’re wearing one make sure it matches your shoes and (if possible) your watch.

Are there any rules that you follow when dressing for work? Your dos and don’ts?

When dressing for work, I try and keep things simple. My go-to staple is navy mixed with other shades of blue, grey or brown. Let’s face it, accountants aren’t the most stylish people on the planet.

That being said, my top don’ts are:

1. Understanding what suit buttons should be done up if your jacket has two or three buttons.
2. Keep the white athletic socks for the gym, they are never acceptable with any suit.
3. White ties, belts and shoes, no, no and no.
4. Belts and suspenders are mutually exclusive.

And how do you combine your work and weekend wardrobe?

All the items in my wardrobe are versatile and can be worn in multiple outfit styles. My current wardrobe is built from fundamental basic items. From there I add a couple of statement pieces.

You’ve been a blogger on Instagram for just over a

year now, do you think that your style has evolved over this time?

When I first started, my style was very formal as I naturally wore a suit from Monday to Friday. However, it has since evolved to be less far less formal on weekends. Wearing a suit five times a week is enough for me!

Education appears to have been a key driver in your life so far. Whilst in learning and then at work, how do you maintain a work/life balance that works for you?

It’s all about time-management and prioritising. Admittedly, I have definitely improved at this. At the start of each day I list out what I want to achieve for

the day ahead. I find this makes me more focused and gives me the best chance of getting everything done.

What is the best thing you’ve learnt over this time as well?

Individuality is what makes the world go round. Be yourself and take chances.

And finally, because we must ask… how do you groom your impressive beard?

How did I know this would come up! To be honest, I spend more time grooming my hair than I do my beard!

That being said, my routine is pretty straightforward. I wash my beard every two to three days and comb it daily.
