London Fashion Week Diaries With The Maxwell Scott Team | Part 2

With the Maxwell Scott team taking on the Big Smoke for LFW this week, there’s plenty of fashion to discuss. Read on to discover part 2 of Kat, Jess and Nicole’s fashion week diaries…

Gayeon Lee, SS20 Presentation

Nestled on the top floor of Foyles book shop in Central London, Gayeon Lee’s SS20 collection mesmerised hundreds of fashion week-goers. Partnering with Central Saint Martins graduate and artist Theola Sturridge for the installation, Lee presented her new collection surrounded by geometric shapes and bold flashes of light and colour. This was very much so reflected in the colour palette of the clothing, with soft pastels contrasted against flashes of fuchsia pink, navy and yellow. Inspired by the paintings of Milton Avery, the collection encapsulated a certain refined beauty in the form of interesting pleating and fluid lines. The lightweight fabrics, flowing dresses, and loose tailoring created an effortless feel that would most definitely help you maintain an air of elegance during a hot summer in the city.

Marta Jakubowski, SS20

It’s a sign of good things to come when you notice the Vogue editors walking into the BFC Showspace. One can presume that Marta Jakubowski’s slot had been changed from a presentation to a catwalk show for this very reason. The show commenced with a flash of purple, next season’s champion colour, in the form of a sharply constructed cropped jacket. What followed was an incredibly confident display of innovative tailoring and power dressing to the extreme. Inspired by Marlene Dietrich and the character of Lola in Tom Tykwer’s ‘Run Lola Run’, this wonderfully wearable collection mixed styles from various eras. A layered mac coat in tonal brown hues was a certain highlight. For Jakubowski, it’s a bravo from us – and Vogue too, we can imagine.

Alice Archer, SS20 Presentation

Alice Archer’s SS20 collection took place at Noho Studios in Fitzrovia – a blank canvas for Archer to display her beautifully feminine designs. Drawing inspiration from the watercolour paintings of  Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the young designer experimented with embroidered techniques onto dresses to create blossoms of peonies and sweetpeas. More extravagant pieces were balanced with simple silhouettes in sugary hues. It is clear that Archer’s work is all in the detail. With incredibly intricate embellishments running throughout the collection, it is evident as to how much painstaking work has gone into these pieces. They are most certainly to be cherished and loved for years to come – something we should all be more cognisant about as the slow fashion movement continues to gain momentum.

Rixo, SS20 Presentation

Woodstock arrived in Chelsea on Saturday evening for Rixo’s SS20 presentation. Known for their signature floaty and floral frocks, Rixo took their aesthetic to the Seventies for the summer ahead. With models frolicking on a carpet of real grass and dancing to disco and funk, we were immediately taken back to the era of peace and love. Long dresses in iconic seventies silhouettes formed the core of the collection – with classic bold floral prints and a colour palette of reds, oranges, greens and purples. More subdued wearable pieces included silk blouses with prominent collars and straight midi skirts split to the knee. The Rixo woman is anticipating a summer of fun, that’s for certain.
