London Collections: Men AW16 Highlights

With an ever-expanding show schedule, London Collections: Men is fast becoming a leading event in the menswear calendar. Known for showcasing both emerging and existing talent, the event epitomises the breadth and diversity of men’s fashion in Britain today. As LCM AW16 stamps it’s final sartorial mark on the city of London for another season, we review the most influential shows hot off the catwalk.

Richard James

Inspired by London’s powerful and prestigious docklands in the 1930’s, Richard James’ AW16 collection showcases a mix of dapper Prince of Wales check suits and maritime knitted roll necks. Named ‘Chains and Cranes’, the collection lends a nostalgic hand to a time when London was home to the largest port in the world, creating a hub of rich culture and unique style full of seaside influences.

 

Burberry

Burberry’s AW16 collection is all about outerwear. Showcasing so many different styles, it began to feel like a celebratory display of iconic jackets and coats. Having bred their own iconic coat, the trench, this wasn’t too unfamiliar for the fashion house. Models wore navy pea coats adorned with gold military buttons, oversized grey duffles and vintage style bombers with a classic check revived from Burberry’s archives.

 

Barbour

Reminding us that the North East is rather chilly, the models tog up warm for South Shields brand Barbour’s AW16 collection. According to the Barbour boy, layering is key for next Autumn/Winter. Commonly associated with heritage and tradition, Barbour have injected a youthful edge, fusing the practicality of layering with an opportunity to mix things up a little. Plaid shirts poke out under chunky knits and casual blazers are thrown over classic wax jackets and et voila – 21st Century Barbour is born.
