Street style photographers, bloggers, models and fashion influencers invade the quaint, central arrondissements of Paris every March for the arrival of winter’s collections from Chanel, Celine, Chloé and more. It is believed that Paris holds the most magic during fashion week season. With a history steeped in couture, delicate fabrics and influential fashion houses, the prestigious French city bears a certain time-honoured charm that cannot be replicated. Here’s our top three collections shown at Paris Fashion Week AW16…

With a themed and extravagant spectacle expected, Karl Lagerfeld surprised his guests this season. Taking inspiration from a time before the catwalk, his audience were seated just like they would be pre-war time. Rows of gold chairs lined the room and the models walked down the centre – a stripped-back version of Chanel’s recent shows. The collection showcased references of horse-riding, one of Coco Chanel’s pastimes, with embellished riding boots and above-the-ankle pleated trenches. A Chanel classic returned in the form of layers upon layers of beautiful pearls.

As always, the Chloé girl was a free spirit. Where was she going for AW16? Well, she was definitely a biker girl, with slim fitting leather jumpsuits and culottes seen throughout the show, teamed with suede oversized pullovers and elegantly tied neckerchiefs. Flowing gypsy dresses, an iconic shape for Chloé, were noted in navy, mustard yellow and dusky light blue. All looks were teamed with a mid-length leather boot reminiscent of the seventies in worn-out tan, yellow snakeprint and a dusty black. Calling all fashionistas – this is your festival look for 2016.

Hedi Slimane opted for no music to showcase his latest collection at Saint Laurent. Why? Nobody’s sure, but an 80’s pop track would’ve fitted the bill seamlessly. It seems like the Eighties is well and truly back for AW16 – for evening wear anyway. All the 80’s greats were included – high shoulders, shorter-than-short skirt lengths, off-the-shoulder necklines, pointed courts and a ton of sequins. This is a Saint Laurent masterclass collection, with its finest looks brought back to life. It feels like Slimane is trying to remind us of Saint Laurent’s significance within fashion for AW16 – like a very glam, walking portfolio.
